So, I went on a bit of a holiday in Florida. Ate a TON. Found several places to chow down in the raw.
Glaser Organic Farm hosts a farmer's market on the weekend. Lots of raw yumminess to be had. Not just fruits and veggies, but also dehydrated goodies, nice cream, pizza, juices and all kinds of cakes and pies. They also have their goods in some local groceries like Whole Foods. My favorite is their Sunburger!
Go-Go in Miami Beach was terrific. Not raw but raw friendly. Always nice to go to a place where I can bring an Omni and we both eat what we want.
I ate at some nice omni places who were happy to make me luscious raw salads. One place was Oceans 234 in Deerfield Beach. It is right on the beach; it was nice to spend the day learning to surf and then have a cozy meal while watching the rest of the surfers do their thing.
I loved eating my weight in young Thai coconuts! My mom brought home tons of them, so I had coconut water everyday and coconut flesh to make chocolate pudding! I wanted to bring home a car full, but the car was pretty loaded up as it was ( and I drive a tiny 2 seater!)
My mom and her boyfriend were very interested in my food and wanted to try anything I made. They bought thought this was a super way to eat - and both are going to incorporate more raw food into their diets.
Two places I did not make it to, but I will hope to go to next month are Sublime in Fort Lauderdale and Escopazzo in Miami. Sublime is all vegan with some raw dishes and Escopazzo is an omni Italian place with vegan and raw vegan options.
Friday will be two months raw -I feel so fantastic!
I will get back to blogging what I eat tomorrow!
07:30
The juice of 10,000 carrots... I mean 9.
09:05
One small banana made its way into my belly.
12:30
One avocado. I always think it strange when someone looks at my avocado and asks what it is that I am eating.
15:30
I may have have an orange.... maybe not.
19:00
We went to Life Cafe and I ordered the Organic BBQ Sandwich. WOW. From their website:
Organic BBQ Sandwich...House made, low temperature dehydrated onion bread (golden flax, sunflower seeds, Nama Shoyu, onions), portabella mushrooms, BBQ sauce (tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, orange juice, spices), spring mix.
Hungry now, are you not?
07:30
I think that I shall never see a juice as lovely as a carrot.
13:15
PIZZA!!!
15:30
Blood Orange
18:30
PIZZA!!!
The leftover pizza, just like SAD pizza, was even BETTER today. The "slices" were huge too, like a pizza for one.
I didn't have any after dinner snacks, since we went to Scott's nephew's birthday party and came home late.
07:30
Juice. Carrot. Yes!
12:45
I was on the run - so I had a delicious avocado!
15:30
Orange. Blood. Snack.
19:00
Pizza. Holy Moly! The crust was a spinach leaf, topped with sun dried tomato sauce, almond, cashew & basil cheese, red and green peppers, marinated mushrooms, walnut sausage and olives on the side! I made 3 "slices" but I could only eat one.
21:00
I finished off the ice supreme. Scott suggested we stop and get more since I like it so much - he is so cute. I am thinking maybe an ice cream machine may be good. Anyone have any luck making raw ice cream with one?
11:30
I was not as famished as I thought I would be - so I waited a while to eat. I made a scramble based on Ani Phyo Love the Chicks pate scrambles. My pate was slightly different - with more spices and I scrambled it with spinach, tomatoes and red & green peppers. I totally forgot to add mushrooms! I also made a raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, strawberry and pear smoothie. It was berry good. ( I know am I a dork - but I couldn't help myself!)
17:45
I had no idea so much time had passed when I went to grab a bite! I had some spinach and peppers left over from this morning so I mixed in some corn and hemp seeds and spices and dressing and with a side of kimchi had a meal. I also made a glass of mixed citrus juice: blood orange, oranges and lemon. Then I had some nori bites. Yum!
21:30
Not hungry for a snack, but I did make some delicious tea for myself and Scott while we snuggled in front of the fireplace and watched a movie.
14:00
I was so busy all day this was the first chance I had to eat - a taco salad from life grocery cafe.
20:00
I snacked on a few olives.
22:30
Two yummy Bubbies pickles..
I was going to stop at R Thomas on the way back from the club tonight - but I was not in the mood when I drove by... I am gonna be hungry in the morning!
4 weeks Raw yesterday. I was working up to it the week before I went all raw - but here are the good and bad side effects I have noticed.
I lost 20.0 pounds!
My skin is supple. Even my ever ashy elbows have softened up! I have very dry skin and have to religiously wear facial moisturizer - so this was a beautiful benefit to me.
I am very "regular" Thank goodness for recycled tp. Everything feels like this though.
Since I have been trying to eat on a schedule, I am not hungry until it is time to eat.
My energy level is even - no huge spikes or dips, just energy all day.
I have slept pretty well, no nightmares or night terrors at all - which has been a lifelong issue for me. That has a lot to do with Scott to methinks.
My head is very clear. At first it felt unreal, now it is just clarity. It is easier to listen to my body... I feel more tuned in to myself. Does that make sense?
I have been keeping a record of what I eat on this website - to make sure I am getting all the nutrition I need; I have been surprised at how well my nutritional intake has been. I am also taking calcium, iron and a multi vitamin for vegans.
I feel like I smell bad and have bad breath all the time. My bf says no and he would tell me if I was stinky - but his olfactory senses are not too sharp. Ha!
At first, my face broke out like I had not since I was a kid. It has since passed.
Cigarette smoke really bothers me now. I guess that is not bad - just weird.
Over the next 60 days of Raw, I will be gradually increasing my workouts - so I may be eating a lot more to compensate depending on how I am feeling.
I have not found it difficult to eat at all. I make a lot of food at home and have a few places I know I can go and eat, or pick up food. Scott has been wonderful about going to places I would like to eat and has tried a lot of the raw food. He liked a few things, but he is a hard core Omni who who only eats very few veggies and hardly any fruit. I did ask him if he wouldn't mind, if he would cook for himself for a while - which he is fine with. I normally made two dinners, but I would make one vegan and since he does not eat any raw food, it was getting a little crazy. (Although cute - like when I would make him something Italian, I would make myself raw Italian!) I will be in Florida for 10 days starting next weekend and I do not see that being an issue either. My mom takes me to great places to get fresh fruits and veggies, so I will be fine. (If anyone knows a place I can get a nice raw dinner in Miami, please let me know!)
09:00
I ate an egg mc muffin. I mean I had Carrot juice.
13:15
I made a salad with mixed greens, spinach, avocado and caesar dressing
15:30
Two Oranges - yummmmmm.
19:30
After a recomendation from madam striga, I was going to make this, but I was all out of cashews... So I made some eggless egg salad!
20:00
That little pint of Ice Supreme goes a long way! I also had some pistachios.
09:14
Guess what I had? If you guessed carrot juice and a ton of it you were right.
12:58
I had some crazy dish I made last night but could not eat - really spicy nut meat and avocado. Kinda tasted like pepperoni or something.
15:15
I had a blood orange, a regular orange and a grapefruit during the afternoon.
18:05
I made a giant dish with all kinds of seaweed and mushrooms. oh so good - I made too much though! Sometimes my eyes are bigger then my tum tum.
20:30
I scream for Ice SUPREME!
09:00
An ocean of carrot juice. I drink a lot and a woman at work yesterday was worried I may turn into this or this.
12:15
I made seaweed salad:kelp noodles, dulse granules, laver, wakame, garlic, sesame oil, sesame seeds and a seven spice Japanese seasoning. Wow! It was so good! I then tried to eat a kiwano which I had never had before. It tasted weird - OK by weird I mean bad. I didn't eat a lot of it.
20:15
The melon made me quite sick. Now I find out it is more of an ornamental fruit - people eat it, but many people just display it since it can sit around for MONTHS and look pretty - Thanks Whole Foods!
Couldn't eat anything else all night.
