Yesterday was much easier. And I tried something crazy! I like my salads hot - and so I was thining I wanted my salad smoothies and juices hot as well, so I thought about juicing a hot pepper. I was worried if I would even been able to taste it but more importantly, I was worried that putting a hot pepper through my juicer would make all my juice tase like hot peppers. So as an experiment, in my lunchtime juice I juiced a sweet pepper from my garden. It was amazing! It was the second veggie I harvested from my garden. The first was a hot pepper which I gave to Scott's dad on father's day. Now I can wait to try a hot pepper!
What I had yesterday:
Carrot & Beet juice
Kitchen Sink Salad Smoothie: Avocado with juice of garlic, shallots, sweet pepper, spinach, swiss chard, celery, cucumber, mixed sprouts, carrots, tomato, lime and parsley. I also added a little sea salt.
Fruit smoothie: pinaapple, cherries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and a banana. (Oh! Yum!!)
Salad in a glass: Spinach, celery, carrots, tomato, garlic, swiss shard, zuchinni, sprouts, parsely and a little salt and hot sauce!
I also went out and after midnight went by R Thomas for another yummilicious Energy Soup Smoothie. They are soooo good!
I am really liking being able to juice a salad. The combinations have all been really lovely so far. When I go through these veggies, I would like to try mixing in some other things, like fennel and radishes! Having all that avocado sure helped. I know that for people who juice feast they dont drink complex fats and fiber like in my green smoothies, but I read that being on a juice feast also slows down your metabolism!! I don't want to do that! I just want my pipes clean! So it may take a little longer, but it is delicious! and hopefully I am not confusing my body too much!!
When I stepped on the scale today I did notice I dropped 4 pounds. I want to be very careful with that. I read where lots of people would lose a pound or more a day on liquids. I also read the folks who stayed raw after pretty much kept off all the weight they lost... people who went back to cooked gained some back. I am not so much worried about that as I am a little worried about making sure I am getting enough fuel for my body. I am taking some supplements which helps, I think.
I am really excited to juice things from my garden. After I move next month, I will be looking at what I can plant at the new place for harvesting in the fall. I am in Georgia, any suggestions?
OK, So after the 90 days ( and a few non raw meals at the end while on vacation) I tired going back to cooked food here and there.
Yeah. Other than some hummus, R. Thomas food and some rice, my body was not ready for it.
So now I am incorporating more juice into my menu. I am going to try to do all juice/ liquids/smoothies for a week and go from there. I understand that people do not drink smoothies with lots of fats on the juice feast... but I think I am going to listen to my body for clues....
Yesterday was the first day and last night was hard. We went out, unexpectedly, to meet some friends, and there was a lot of people in a party/club atmosphere which always makes me want to go to R. Thomas and eat cooked food. And after drinking juice all day it was all the more difficult to resist the yummy cooked goodness! Their red beans and quinoa and the veggie burger are too amazing!
What I had yesterday: (I have a huge servings of each of these - except the cantaloupe juice.)
Citrus detox juice
Carrot & apple juice
Salad in a Glass: tomatoes, garlic, cucumber, spinach, red chard, parsley & a twist of lime
1/2 of a Cantaloupe juice (rind and all - delicious.)
And I did go to R Thomas and picked up the Energy Soup Smoothie: Avocado, apple, sunflower sprouts, dulse & mixed greens. When I arrived at home, I added a little sea salt and cayenne pepper. Oh! So! GOOD!
I was starving when I picked up the energy soup around 12:30 AM. Normally, I am not hungry at all then, but I think the first day of drinking nothing but juice on top of the triggers made me hungry. After a few sips of the Energy Soup I was fantastic.
So, I went on a bit of a holiday in Florida. Ate a TON. Found several places to chow down in the raw.
Glaser Organic Farm hosts a farmer's market on the weekend. Lots of raw yumminess to be had. Not just fruits and veggies, but also dehydrated goodies, nice cream, pizza, juices and all kinds of cakes and pies. They also have their goods in some local groceries like Whole Foods. My favorite is their Sunburger!
Go-Go in Miami Beach was terrific. Not raw but raw friendly. Always nice to go to a place where I can bring an Omni and we both eat what we want.
I ate at some nice omni places who were happy to make me luscious raw salads. One place was Oceans 234 in Deerfield Beach. It is right on the beach; it was nice to spend the day learning to surf and then have a cozy meal while watching the rest of the surfers do their thing.
I loved eating my weight in young Thai coconuts! My mom brought home tons of them, so I had coconut water everyday and coconut flesh to make chocolate pudding! I wanted to bring home a car full, but the car was pretty loaded up as it was ( and I drive a tiny 2 seater!)
My mom and her boyfriend were very interested in my food and wanted to try anything I made. They bought thought this was a super way to eat - and both are going to incorporate more raw food into their diets.
Two places I did not make it to, but I will hope to go to next month are Sublime in Fort Lauderdale and Escopazzo in Miami. Sublime is all vegan with some raw dishes and Escopazzo is an omni Italian place with vegan and raw vegan options.
Friday will be two months raw -I feel so fantastic!
I will get back to blogging what I eat tomorrow!
07:30
The juice of 10,000 carrots... I mean 9.
09:05
One small banana made its way into my belly.
12:30
One avocado. I always think it strange when someone looks at my avocado and asks what it is that I am eating.
15:30
I may have have an orange.... maybe not.
19:00
We went to Life Cafe and I ordered the Organic BBQ Sandwich. WOW. From their website:
Organic BBQ Sandwich...House made, low temperature dehydrated onion bread (golden flax, sunflower seeds, Nama Shoyu, onions), portabella mushrooms, BBQ sauce (tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, orange juice, spices), spring mix.
Hungry now, are you not?
09:07
Made a crazy juice this morning: spinach, kale, tomato, celery, cucumber, apple and garlic. It is the color of moss.
13:15
Plum for lunch - light, yes. But I found sneakers Hooray! On a side note, I remember hearing someplace that the word plum is the most sensual word to say aloud in the English language... You just said it out loud didn't you?
20:49
I left work early, so I did not have my usual mid-afternoon snack. Instead I went home with every intention of riding my bike, when my significant other showed up early from work as well. We went to R. Thomas and I had Raw Dinner #1 (guacamole, flax chips, sweet potato chips, raw slaw, walnut loaf, chipolte sauce and kale salad), the champ ( carrot, ginger and apple juice) and the most amazing chocolate truffle for dessert. I have the left over truffles because I could only eat one after all that other food.
22:15
The refrigerator was making a funny noise so, I went to investigate... the sound was coming from the little brown box I brought home from R. Thomas. Inside I could swear those two truffles were screaming, "Eat us! EAT US!" So I did.
07:00
I made a juice for breakfast: carrots, celery, spinach and an apple.
10:30
Banana. I never tire of of bananas.
13:13
Carrot juice from a juice place across the street from work. I didn't pack a lunch because I had to find an MP3 Player.
15:32
I had a juicy pear as a snack.
20:35
Went to Life Cafe and had some takeout goodies from the buffet: sun dried tomato hummus, mixed veggies, greens, a bit of raw slaw and flax crackers. I also indulged in some chocolate cheesecake for dessert! I took it to a Colombian restaurant, because that is what my bf wanted to eat - and they didn't have any issue with me bringing my "special diet food" in with me.
23:17
I had some Nori Bites as a snack. So delicious and addictive.
13:30
I have been really sick the last couple days - thanks pollen. So I slept in.
Brunch: Carrot Juice, Spinach Caesar Salad and Tuna Salad with Avocado Chipolte Mayo based on this recipe from a lovely boy on Gone Raw. I added chipolte instead of the other spices to the mayo and substituted half the almonds for the carrot pulp from my juice. I also skipped the seaweed and added celery seeds and only a half of a stalk of celery. I didn't use collard greens - which is why I had spinach instead.
21:30
I ended up taking a nap - a rather long nap - and did not make dinner. It is I am considering going out to get out of the house for the first time since Wednesday and then heading to my favorite 24 hour healthy food restaurant afterwards. They serve raw, vegan, vegetarian and omni food there. Delicious and a great place to be at 4:00 AM.
04:10
After second thoughts, then third thoughts, I did go out. Saw a few friends, but mainly was there to dance. I headed straight to R Thomas later for a the $7.00 Shake, Nori Rolls with Quinoa and Raw Cultured Veggies (which I found out is only mostly raw) and a Kale Salad. Everything was delicious and I bought some cultured veggies to take home. Now I'll make my grocery list for shopping in the morning.
